Principal's Message

July 27, 2018

Dear Springhill Families,

Greetings and welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. I hope you are still enjoying your summer. We have some time yet but I hope you are starting to think about preparing and planning for the school year to begin again. After a quiet summer, I will be ready for the hallways to be buzzing with the energy of the students. Soon, teachers and staff will start making their way back to set up their classroom to create environments where all students will be motivated to learn.

This year, we unfortunately said good bye to three amazing staff members in June: Kim Britten and Liz Caldwell (3rd grade teachers), and Jayson Caraccioli (Computer Specialist.) All three of them will be missed but we wish them all the best on their new adventures. For the new school year, we are excited about some changes in teaching positions. Debbie Deitch will be joining the 5th grade team, Martin Wong and Christina Churchill will be teaching 4th grade, and Laura Spain and Susan Manzano will be teaching 3rd grade. I feel confident that we will have strong grade level teams and that our teachers will rise to the challenge of learning a new curriculum.

This Summer, Springhill was spared the commotion of upgrades and construction that the other schools are facing. However, as part of the Bond measure funding, this year, planning will begin for the construction of the new modular buildings and work on the lower field. Fingers crossed it will all be completed by the start of school in August 2019.

Our PFC (Parent Faculty Club) works for the benefit of Springhill students and parents, and Scorpion Day is a reflection of this tremendous effort. Scorpion Day is designed to address back-to-school needs (turn in district paperwork, get your child’s teacher assignment, sign-up for volunteer activities, purchase spirit wear, etc.) and also provide an opportunity for parents to make connections and stay involved in our Springhill School community.

In anticipation of the students returning to the halls of Springhill Elementary at the end of August, please mark your calendar with these important dates and times:

  • Scorpion Day – Monday, August 20, 8:00 am – 10:00 am

Springhill PROUD! will continue to be our motto this year with a specific focus on KINDNESS. Together, we strive to create a learning environment where our students can achieve, succeed and grow as learners. Looking forward to the new school year, we are proud to be offering rigorous, comprehensive academic programs and a wide variety of extra-curricular and volunteer activities. I am eagerly anticipating seeing everyone again and meeting our new families.
