We had another great week!

In a recent article published in the Mayo Clinic I read there's a science behind that phenomenon called "loving kindness." The story shared research that showed that learning and practicing kindness can profoundly affect your attitude, outlook and even your health. Better yet, you can rewire your brain to be more present and kinder to others, giving your mood a daily boost.

These three simple practices will help get you started: meditation, acts of kindness, and focusing on gratitude. Each day in kindergarten we try to take time to think about small and large things that we are thankful for, we take mindful moments in which we breath, and sit calmly and silently, and we look for and celebrate acts of kindness! I am so grateful for each of your unique children! Each one adds something special to our daily classroom learning and climate.

This week we had our first of ten LPIE Art lessons! The lesson focused on lines! The artists painted and used tools to remove paint from their paper by forming different lines. These 10 lessons are fabulous and definitely a highlight of the art curriculum for the children and myself! Thank you parents for supporting this amazing organization!

In reading this week we added some new “powers” to our reading! We now have: pointer power, reread power, buddy power- we are looking forward to adding more super powers to use while reading.  have begun to assess the children’s growth, and I am happy to report that every child has made personal growth in reading and phonemic skills! Thank you families for continuing to read to your child each and every day!

Your child is bringing home a lot of readers this week. They have practiced reading them over and over again! Some of the books focused on sight words, others on science and math concepts, others on reading fluidness. Please have your young reader keep these just right books in a place that they can reread them!

In writing, the writers have been using writing tools to help with their narrative stories. Each child now has a vowel chart in their writing folder to help them figure out the tricky middles of words. They also are using alphabets and checklists to help bring their writing to a higher level. This continues to be a part of the day that we all look forward to!

We also read a lot of autumn books and scarecrow books this week. The children drew and painted scarecrow faces too! Next week we will learn about The First Thanskgiving!

Parents, thanks for the help with the thankful turkey feather homework! Each child had the opportunity to stand in front of the class and describe how they decorated their feather, and share what they are thankful for. If your child still has not brought in their feather, there is still time! These very special feathers are on display in our classroom!

Thank you!
