We have a Winner!

Kyrstin Wilson is our Friends of the Lafayette Library Bookmark contest winner this year. You can see Kyrstin's winning entry posted with the rest of this year's winners on the library front door.

California Young Reader Medal Winners

The votes have been counted and the results have been announced! This year our Springhill votes were right on The state-wide winners are the same as our winners: We Are in  a Book in the Primary category, Nubs in the Picture Books for Older Readers category and The Giant-Slayer in the Intermediate category.

Each year our 1st-5th grade students have the opportunity to listen to (or read) and vote for their favorite California Young Reader Medal book. During library time I read the five books nominated in the Primary category to our 1st -3rd graders and the three books nominated in the Picture Books for Older Readers category to our 4th and 5th graders. At the end of the month students vote for their favorite book among the nominees and I send these into the CYRM committee to be counted along with votes from students all over the state. The results were posted on the CYRM website on May 1 and the awards will be given in the fall.

CAMP READ-A-LOT

Summer's coming and with it lots of time for recreational reading. Camp Read-A-Lot, our summer reading program, is designed to encourage a love of reading and to keep students reading over the summer. We collected favorite titles and compiled them in a Camp Read-A-Lot list available for downloading from the school website. Students who participate record book titles and the number of pages they've read on a reading log (see back). Completed logs are given to the classroom teacher during the first week of school. This is a district-wide summer reading program.
