Thinking Strategies:

The children are digging deeper in the

meaning of text. They are trying to understand

why the author wrote the book and what the

message he or she is trying to tell the reader.

We have had wonderful discussions after our

read alouds.

A'Peeling News

We have started our non-fiction book clubs. The children will have an opportunity to discuss books in 3 -4 boxes of books. We are learning many facts! The children are very excited about reading!

The class loves number talks! The favorites are what are you noticing and which does not belong. We have started multiplication. We did an activity related to the story, Miss Rumphius. We have continued to review 3 digit subtraction and to work on problem solving strategies. The class liked the model math as well. The pupils have been working on versatiles and tile math with a partner.

The class enjoyed all of the non-fiction books that I shared. The favorites were sharks and tigers! They wrote their facts on their rough drafts for their animal reports. The children read, Shivers in the Fridge. They wrote about what it would be like to live in a refrigeratior.

Art,  Science and Social Studies

We had LPIE Art. The class worked on a wonderful clay project. We also made a special project with clay in the classroom. The children enjoyed the volcano lesson in LPIE Science. We have enjoyed reading about the many adventures all of the Stanleys who have returned to class.

Differentiated Instruction

I have been using music as a transition signal for the children to come to the rug for a whole class lesson. The children have been working with a partner in reading, spelling, math and writing. They each have a learning partner at their table as well. We will continue to use the chrome books for math, reading, and spelling.
