Thinking Strategies:

The children are digging deeper in the

meaning of text. They are trying to understand

why the author wrote the book and what the

message he or she is trying to tell the reader.

We have had wonderful discussions after our

read alouds.

Reading

We have been reading many fairy tales. The class thoroughly enjoyed reader's theater this week. They even made props. They will be performing for their 5th grade buddies on Monday. We have been enjoying reading with partners and hearing all about the Asian folktales

Writing

The class has been writing their own fractured fairy tales. They are very creative! The class wrote letters to Abe Lincoln. They asked him many questions.

Art,  Science and Social Studies

The class has been enjoying a variety of art projects. They loved making penguins who have earmuffs. We have been talking about weather. The class has loved learning about stories that have been passed down from one generation to another.

Differentiated Instruction

I have been using music as a transition signal for the children to come to the rug for a whole class lesson. The children have been working with a partner in reading, spelling, math and writing. They each have a learning partner at their table as well. We will continue to use the chrome books for math, reading, and spelling.
